With a rich culinary heritage, nutmeg spice can be used in both savory and sweet recipes. It can be measured or shaken from a canister of pre-ground nutmeg, or used whole and grated straight into a dish. You'll need a microplane or nutmeg grater to remove a tiny bit of the seed in order to use whole nutmeg. Be careful not to use too much nutmeg when adding it to food since it can quickly overshadow other flavors.

Additionally, nutmeg is a component of several spice blends, including garam masala, ras el hanout, and pumpkin pie spice. In order to add taste and garnish, it is also sprinkled over a range of hot beverages, such as eggnog and cappuccino.
